Exhaled Meteors

I'd had no idea you'd be this way, Suited in ungentle steel and wearing such a smile of destruction. I was foolish to not realise I had given you every chance to lash your tongue And sharpen your sword. I had outstayed my short welcome And now I am faced with a stranger, Baneful, And whose eyes glint like exhaled meteors. I know to turn away. Your all-abhorred hounds bay and snap, Eager to lap at deeply bedded lacerations Straining at the collar to intimidate And feed off my fear.
