Vampire Gal's "Because You Did" is an angry, direct address to people who bully others. The speaker pulls us through a series of girls most of us might pass without noticing: one who lingers in doorways because she's afraid of going home, one with a black eye and a "wierd smile," and one who stares out a window, possibly thinking about ending her life. Each is hurting at home and then hurt again at school.
The speaker's feeling shifts from sorrow to accusation. At first the tone is almost pleading, asking "Do you see?" Then it hardens into a warning that "actions have consequences." The final lines, with "ALL / YOUR / FAULT" broken across the page, feel like shouting, and the speaker seems to be speaking from real pain rather than at a distance.
The mood is heavy, raw and confrontational. The unpolished spelling and plain language make it feel like a heartfelt outburst, not a carefully shaped piece, which adds to its honesty.
