Notepad — Summary

Notepad filled with dreams.

Notepad sprinkled with screams.

Notepad of wishes.

Collecting dust behind the mantle piece.

A notepad sits at the center of this short poem, and the speaker keeps coming back to it. Three times it is named, and each time it holds something different: dreams, screams, wishes. That pairing of "dreams" and "screams" is the heart of it. The rhyme makes them sound almost like two sides of the same thing, as if hoping for something and crying out over it are never far apart.

The last line changes the tone. After the repeated "Notepad," the poem ends on a longer, quieter image: the notepad "collecting dust behind the mantle piece." Whatever was written down has been put out of sight and left alone. The speaker doesn't say why, which lets the feeling come through without explanation.

The mood is wistful and a little sad. There's a sense of ambitions or private pain that were once taken seriously enough to write down, then abandoned. The poem is short, but the silence after that final line carries a lot of regret.

For Sale

Sell me pieces of your life. Trinkets for me to gorge upon. Crows pecking on your skull. Existing evermore beyond the light.

Loops in Time

Travel through the swirly mess. Upside down, right side up, another test. Back, slide, and flipped. Head smashed in.

Will It All Be Okay Tomorrow?

Will the trampoline be secure. Will the lamppost fall on my car. Will the tiles stay on the roof. Will the wind stop howling.
