TALL nettles cover up, as they have done
These many springs, the rusty harrow, the plough
Long worn out, and the roller made of stone:
Only the elm butt tops the nettles now.
This corner of the farmyard I like most:
As well as any bloom upon a flower
I like the dust on the nettles, never lost
Except to prove the sweetness of a shower.
The sovereign beauty which I do admire,
Witness the world how worthy to be praised:
The light whereof hath kindled heavenly fire
In my frail spirit, by her from baseness raised;
That being now with her huge brightness dazed,
Base thing I can no more endure to view;
But looking still on her, I stand amazed
At wondrous sight of so celestial hue.
So when my tongue would speak her praises due,
It stopped is with thought's astonishment:
And when my pen would write her titles true,
It ravish'd is with fancy's wonderment:
Yet in my heart I then both speak and write
The wonder that my wit cannot endite.
a pleasant day is worth little
to the lords of chance
that great crowd
like lousy hair dressed in feathers
hanging one another’s heads
and laughing to see a wart a red eye
no beauty left to look upon
and no other mirth
tell me i'm beautiful
tell me i'm strong
tell me i'm wanted
or that i've done nothing wrong
so i can deny it
The fine golden hair,
White shiny teeth,
Hourglass figure,
The definition of beauty,
With eyes as blue as the sky,
Full, luscious lips,
Strong legs like that of an athlete,
The definition of beauty,
Silence fills the room as she enters,
Heads turn instantly,
Mouths agape,
The definition of beauty,
With all attention on her,
She opens her mouth,
Stumbles over her words,
In a cringe-inducing sound,
you tell her that she's beautiful
She laughs and asks you how,
When theres a crack on her front tooth,
And all short nails which she bit from getting nervous ,
And when she closes her eyes and laughs how her eyebrows become wavy,
In her slightly potatoish nose,
And you wonder where she learnt that beauty lies upon your skin and outer appearance so that she thinks it covers, everything she holds within,
But she let's her mirror and society estimate her worth, which breaks my heart
She doesn't know how many life's she made better just by smiling
By simply being on this earth
all the beauties
of the swing
hold me
not
these tools
a shape
is
worked into
and
above all
say
you know
it's just
too damned
beauti-
-ful.
Once I wanted to take the moon out of the the sky and keep it,
Because I thought it was pretty.
I reached up to grab it,
But it was to far away.
I tried and I tried,
But nothing seemed to work.
Then one day I realised,
That you don't need to hold something to find its true beauty.
The flashes of azaleas red and white
Die and burn and die again :
The sun and clouds part and meet and part again.
Among the clouds of azaleas white and red
I see one flash never die :
O the idyl beauty of her face!
Hey for my heart's delight !
Is she not waiting for my love and song
Among the clouds of azaleas red and white ?
I have no beauty that is all my own,
No special loveliness carved out of me,
No glowing images wrought perfectly,
Splendour of flesh or delicacy of bone.
I am a pool, wherein you shall be shown
How wonderful and starlike you can be,
I am a mirror so that you may see
Yourself most intimately and alone.
When you lean to me and a dear, swift grace
Sways in my body, and my lips and eyes
Grow suddenly and exquisitely calm —
Oh tremble and look deep into my face
And see your own there, marvel and grow wise,
Touch me and cry, " How beautiful I am ! "
She does not know
Her beauty,
She thinks her brown body
Has no glory.
If she could dance
Naked,
Under palm trees
And see her image in the river
She would know.
But there are no palm trees
On the street,
And dish water gives back no images.
