times I find my head
I come to be more supple
at noon doing midnight
and the bed as fallen as me
my head full of outback
I am with great difficulty finding
the difference between short and long
I have occasion
to mix my occasions
another me to cast
all the hip and hungry places
force me to get bit
my aches eating me
full of talk about talk
my head is all oven
to inconvenience an enemy
I will not remove my own head
people pray
for a head with good countenance
a light head
ordinary as a horse
but a foot
committed to ignorance
does as much good as
a burning head
but I make new words
of ash and trouble
last night in sleep I lost my papers
my morning
my change
my dinner
my cover
my head
and my sons that are nothing
like me
I am a tower
of borrowed matter,
ill with all yesterday
like my head
with the wine I drank
today.
A great ear on
an ordinary head
had some business
with the urge to be.
I examine my head and find a closet:
a boy’s clothes,
mischief and a candle,
a great fear.
The day being very pleasant,
I drank like a drunk, very pleasant,
and puzzled about finding out
the meaning of the holes
and merry spigot
in my head.
I stay, I cannot stay
in my own head.
I have made more light
than the Lord
and resolve to sit
and resolve to make way
and be undone.
Every time I am caught
With my back to someone's camera
I look aghast
Refusing to believe, to accept
That the unfamiliar posterior of a human head
With dirty grey wisps of hair
Like an odd-looking horseshoe
Stuck on a hairless scalp
That reflects the light of the camera flash
Is really me
Hiding behind an anterior
I thought I knew all my life -
A view of myself that I will never see
With my own eyes...
I once hit my head
so hard
dreams leaked out
they were semi-solid
things
gelatinous and transluscent
like something from the dark
reaches near the bottom
of the ocean
pale, icy colored reds and blues and greens
I could never view them directly
but only from the corner
of my eye
there were not many
perhaps half a dozen?
if I allow life to slow
