I will be an old man sometime
And live in a dive somewhere.
I will think of this night some place
the rain falling on stone.
There will be no one near
no whisper on the street,
only this song of old longing
the plaintive yearning to be young
and you together on some street.
Now is the time of dark retreat
from drugs, desire, dance.
This is the last chance.
This is not the last chance.
I shall be young again.
Why, only yesterday I lay drugged
on the dark bed through two days,
babey
come with me
barefeet
into
this nite rain
into
this warm moist nite
barefeet
barelimbed
into
this nite air
into this crystal clean air
which we swacked against the blackness
and stars.
we are cleaned
cleanst from top to bottom
first rains.
neon fireflies
beside a black river…
November rain clots in
the fertilized gutter of my
dust packed soul,
existence storms within me
ticker tape thoughts struck by lightning
mad stockholders of cells sunspot through my flesh
reaching to sear the plastic backdrop
through which I walk.
Telling myself of Great Auk stars
does not create enough
petroleum jelly in my mind
to ease the burns from
my inward x-raying eyes--
frog legs of pain
can-can in burlesque of my seriousness.
my stomach unreels in newsreel battle gore,
I watch
for the sun
as fully
expectant
the earth
accepts
the rain
I guess our problems in life are a little like rainstorms:
You start with a drizzle
Which doesn't seem too bad
And is bearable
Then the storm hits
And you feel like there will never be a way out
But you have to remember,
Every rainstorm ends
I guess I'm just trying to figure out if I'm in a rainstorm
Or simply headed for an eye of a hurricane
Sometimes, I can't tell if it is rain or teardrops running down my face.
I long for silence, but the wind is screaming.
The wind, screams bloodcurling screams,
forcing my heart to beat faster than it did when you said those God-awful words.
When the wind screams, it sounds detached.
Like, it hears the screams, but can't realize they come from it's own mouth.
Maybe you broke the winds heart too.
Maybe you led it on.
Maybe your relationship with the wind was just as dysfunctional,
and now the wind is going insane with pain?..no, numbness.
The wind cannot feel, because there is only so much agony a heart can bare,
only so far you can tear it before it is shreds,
There I go again
Staring at the endless black sky,
Hoping my tears will go away.
The chill from the open window
Enters inside,
Reminding me of
The far away.
Oh how I wish
I could be there,
Far away from where I am.
The rain is slowly pouring,
Peeking inside from the
Small gap between the windows.
It caresses my face,
Almost asking for help.
I look at the cars
Drops falling
Drip! Drip!
On water falling
Splash ! Splash !
Puddles formed here and there
Paper boats sailing here and there
Children sailing paper boats.
Children sailing paper boats.
i reach deep into the layers
of your being and tap into the
deep tangles of fleshy heartstrings
to feel your heartbeat through
vulnerable skin, fingers barely
grasping that ba-thump-ba-thump
in my embrace. i hold that small
ember in my palm as if it was a precious
wonder; and as the tricoloured rain
dances right before my eyes, and
the sunlight rips a tear in the artificially
darkened sky, i find myself melting
into your steady rhythm, my own melody
fitting right into yours, synced syncopation
of a duality intertwined almost into canon —
my world isolates that noisy beating
the gentle warmth of the rising sun
fills my tired, cold heart with radiant joy,
the morning dew glistens with the colours
of the rainbow, carefully twinkling under
the golden hues, dotting freshly matured
leaves as diamonds on this ring over my
left hand, a promise which rings eternal,
just as your reign over this body of mine.
the birds cry their morning plea; melodious
etudes of the new dawn ring like wedding
bells, the soft echos of their love song
rejuvenate my shell of exhaustion as the air
brims with joyful exhilaration, sizzling with
the energy of a thousand suns. yet, it retains
the lightness of a million feathers, grazing my
flushed cheeks as i lean into your being.
Does rain come knocking at your door
And you open up to it
Welcome it like a long awaited guest
And let it enter,
Not only in your home but also in your soul
You talk to it, as if it were your long lost friend
You pack up your deepest darkest secrets
And hand over the briefcase for the rain to take away
Do you secretly pour some pent up tears into that baggage too?
Or do you save them for when the rain leaves your home
And then let those tears soak you
Do you find solace in letting go when the rain comes
Everything that you've been holding on to?
Do you feel like a newborn when the sky is clear
Knowing there'll be no more rain
For a long long time now....
