I don't wanna be your broken robot
Give me one good reason why I should,
Why I should put on a different skin
Why I should wear a different face
Why I should walk around in a costume
That isn't convincing anyway;
I don't wanna hear
Because I said so,
That isn't a reason at all,
Give me a reason why I should
Play your silly games and
Laugh at your tasteless jokes and
Sing your senseless songs;
No I'm not gonna be your broken robot
Till I hear a good reason why I should.
'You're too old to be comforted' they said like as though they did before
'You made me like this' I told them back my emotions finally spilling
You made fun of my expressions and now look at what you've done
My face is tungsten but my heart is alloy
My joints are rusty and my bones are dented
I may be akin to a robot but I am still human
So dare you say such a thing
To me of all people
How dare you,
When you're the one who turnt me into this
My hollow is sounding this way:
A hinged flap clangs,
tapping against its empty cylinder.
There are cinders in the tender
trap I laid yesterday
to catch a glimpse of a gleam.
The gleam leaped from a small crinkle
in the steel, and got free
before I could show it how much
I loved it.
Then, I closed my eyes.
When I close my eyes, I can see
flares of color.
Monday, it isn’t blue, it’s red,
a ruby splatter creeping
its stain of warmth to the very edge.
