I could not speak
my sorrow so I begin
to rage
a candle
lit to burn
in the chimney
knowing myself
to have given ground
to air
He asked me politely, ‘ Do not write
All these sob-stuff, write about happiness’.
I turned further morose when he said kindly
‘Regret I cannot take anything away
From what you write’.
Rummaging through my trunk
I retrieved my faded, forgotten mask
Of good cheer.
Clasping it over my face
I felt good, looking in the mirror
Because I was grinning
From ear to ear.
But then, queerly, the reflection
Had empty sockets
Where my eyes should've been.
Drops of water,
Flowing seas.
Those who weep,
The happy.
A flickering match,
Burning countries.
Sorrows and worries,
So carefree.
Loving a memory,
So full of detest.
Holding a flower,
So lifeless.
A plate of food,
Empty stomach.
A helping hand,
For trouble.
Forgive and forget,
Please let the pain consume you
Forgive and forget,
Everything they have done to you
Remember the ideals you've been preaching
Don't do this terrible things that you're wishing
You'll feel pain today, and again tomorrow
Don't make things worse, just endure the sorrow
Forgive and forget those who caused you pain
And just enjoy everything, even the rain
Also don't yell out, "I'm becoming insane!"
Because remember, you have nothing to gain
You are always alone, please don't forget
Do not complain, your future is set
Just forgive and forget every painful thing
And just let me watch your suffering
i love books because every ending is tied up with a pretty bow
all loose ends addressed
instead of the empty half-ever-afters full of questions
sorrows
pain
confusion
left behind after you're screwed over
you don't have to wonder
you know
Do you ever wonder if you're really enjoying something?
If you even can really enjoy something
You're on this beautiful island
Only 48 hours left
And wondering: Can I really enjoy this moment
Can I appreciate it with all my heart?
Do you know this feeling
That feeling of sorrow
Sorrow in your heart, a lump in your throat
Knowing there are only 48 hours left
So you stand there
At midnight
Stand on the balcony and look at the ocean
Listen to the wind
That's when the feeling starts
You try to stretch the time
Im fine.
Im okay.
That's what i say through the tears that are obviously streaming down my face.
And i try,
I promise i try so hard to make them stop.
But for some reason most of the time im just not strong enough.
I feel like the most useless waste of air,
All i do is drown in my sorrow,
more like wish i could drown.
Or evaporate.
When someone used to ask me what my dream superpower was i would say the ability to read minds.
But now if someone asked me that i would simply say,
the ability to evaporate.
To not feel anything for any amount of time at all.
My metal heart is tearing me up
With all of its stray pieces coming after me
I try to run but I'm derailed
It's stuck inside taking me with it
I can't hold on and I slip
My chest bursts open
Words pour out giant sorrows
Not quite in but not quite there
I stutter as I force out the unsaid balance
It doesn't work
And I weld my metal heart back up
I would have brought you fire for those nights
When you were cold and lonely and in doubt.
I would have brought you laughter for your tears
And given you new dreams to dream about.
But look away, your eyes are much too bright,
And sorrow has lent beauty to your face,
And should I cast aside this cloak of years
And live forever after in disgrace--
It is an old temptation sprung anew,
Yet must not be.
Ah, look at me and you shall see
I am, my love, as miserable as you!
Truth, like moon of day and night,
Ever perfect, all silent and gold.
Shed thy light over sorrow.
Make me regain my rest and song.
When I go back to earth
And all my joyous body
Puts off the red and white
That once had been so proud,
If men should pass above
With false and feeble pity,
My dust will find a voice
To answer them aloud:
"Be still, I am content,
Take back your poor compassion,
Joy was a flame in me
Too steady to destroy;
Lithe as a bending reed
Loving the storm that sways her--
I found more joy in sorrow
Than you could find in joy."
I have come to bury Love
Beneath a tree,
In the forest tall and black
Where none can see.
I shall put no flowers at his head,
Nor stone at his feet,
For the mouth I loved so much
Was bittersweet.
I shall go no more to his grave,
For the woods are cold.
I shall gather as much of joy
As my hands can hold.
I shall stay all day in the sun
Where the wide winds blow,--
But oh, I shall cry at night
When none will know.
