ADVICE RECEIVED AT ADVOCATE HARBOR

A golden cliff above grey water– how Cape D’Or got its name. Among driftwood stumps and branches washed from God knows where, oil cans, buckets, ropes, lobster claws, seaweeds, the carcass of a seal, I found a new walking stick. The old one was buried with the old dog, a week before our son left for Colorado. We two have since learned to travel together, learned the rhythms of silence and talk, when to make love, when to sleep alone. Walking the shore before the rising tide, shaking stones from our sandals, we met an old woman in a blue hat. She laughed and pointed out to sea. “Watch out,” she said, “for every third wave.”

Where We’ll Live

I was tearing my life to pieces You were sitting in the charred ruins of your house You said: “My house is sad” I said: “I will make my home with you” You said: “I built you a house” I said: “I will make it a home for us.” Then you said: “I’m tired and cold. I’ve been teaching a long time.” And I said: “We could move to Spain, and I will grow you oranges.” Then you said: “I want your home to be your dream” And I said: “We will live in Puerto Rico, and I raise our food.” And you said: “I will write poetry in the sun, and raise orchids” And I said: “I will kiss your head as I go to the fields and bring you dinner.” And then one day I thought you left, orchids wilted, zoo stilled.

While You Were Out [Poem]

While you were out working, I went to the fair. I tried out all the rides; I licked the ice cream. All day I played, expecting a Revelation of fun. I slowly found myself wishing I, too, was at work. So that it wouldn’t seem Quite so pointless. I have more fun when I Have you with me.

US

If you're Serenity I'm Chaos, If you're Tranquil, I'm Turbulent. But I'm here for the calm, And I'm here to stay, To make you learn to rage, Until I may burn you enough, And haul you in my cage. I'm also here for the destruction, So please just let me stay, Unperturbed you are, but deadly,I must say. I must cease too, much to your dismay, But you can't save me, Can't save a sinking ship, while standing on the bay. You may cry, then you can laugh,

I keep searching for his touch that had my heart beat come to a stop so I try to fulfill it with the touch of others yet it does not feel the same.
