Shadows

We are all afraid of the dark Some more than others Afraid of the unknown So we hide under the covers

We are afraid of what we might find We are afraid to find something bad We are afraid of what it can and will do So we cover our sight with our hands

As you lay there fast asleep It lays there darker than gray The only one not leaving your side Yet at night, when you see it, you're afraid

As you cry, it cries there with you As you laugh, it laughs along beside you As you walk, it either walks beside you, Follows behind, or guides you

Yet at some point you want to be alone So you sneak out at night Although you may not see it It's right there by your side

We are born with this one lifetime friend Who never speaks but always agrees And as we are lowered into the Earth Our shadow leaves the world with us
