Lights Off

As a child, I was scared, I was stupid, And I only thought about myself. I always played fun games as a child, Like watch TV, Draw or color, Or play outside. When it got dark outside, I couldn't take a step out of indoors. I went into my cold bed, And my parents tucked me in. They turned off the lights, Except one tiny light, Which I never turned away from. I didn't like the dark. When the light was off, I would sing peacefully, I would think nicely, And I would close my eyes. I pressed my face into my Warm pillow, And I covered myself, And I was hidden. My eyes would get heavy, I would get sleepy, My legs would go numb, And I would sleep. When I awake, The bright morning Hides the darkness that Had haunted me. That haunts me even from now.
