Creeping Slowly Backwards

Jeff WolfeAnxious

Precipitation oozes down the windshield – dead eye stare. Jolted back mind. Every previous rainfall strung together, in a flicker past. Present hopelessly lost, replaced by a better picture. Young rain down face. Wish in the memory I wasn't alone to wander street. Thought sent elsewhere when there was someone heard through cold receiver. The chord shackled to wall made for small circles. Crouched on a chair. Pitter-patter down pour settles voice. Innocent needs spoken delay an eventual end. Kept a pure connection. Not so capable anymore. Courage in the quiet - with parents, fast asleep. Crept slowly inside, words along electric wire. Notes passed next day through locker vents. Daylight doesn't forgive. A protection never secured. Drifted off – impulses fearful flurries on dark roads. Left without choice, to plunge past midnight alone. Eventual emergence from forest - cloaked in blackest drip. Found by a stranger to come clean.
