When We Were Young

Jessea L. VaughanContemplative

We were foolish And confused We thought challenges Were easy so We laughed at pain And cried for joy Whenever one arose; When we were young We knew volumes About nothing We told everyone Who would listen That we knew it all But the world we knew Was a fantasyland And reality Was weird and strange; When we were young We worried ourselves to pieces Over frivolous things Of no consequence And treated them as though They'd affect the world And life as we knew it; When we were young We believed the unbelievable We took nonsense as fact And lies as truth We thought up was down And this was that And wrong was right When we were children Because when we were young We were foolish And confused.
