One

There used to be two, But now there's one. One person Alone In this strange world. One person Who has no one And no place to run to. A person Shivering in the cold In a coat of rags and patches. Rags are what's left Of the old life Because he lost everything In the floods. Patches sewn on By people who stay Until he has almost befriended them, Then they leave. The patches on his coat Are like scars to him. And he refuses to look at them. Because he hates them, Detests them, Wants to rip them off. But he can't Because they hold His torn coat together. There used to be two, But now there's one. Because he lost her In the floods.
