The girl I was

Today I looked in the mirror And became the girl I used to be And I miss her I watched her smile, laugh and play I remembered the worries she had That stress that wasn’t stress at all I realise that now I envie how free she was Although she would say otherwise Her smile is so beautiful it could light up a room Her laugh sounds like blissful music There's a joyful light in her eyes And as she runs through a playground of memories I drift through them with her I reach out and touch the mirror And she turns to me In the slowest of slow motions The light in her eyes fades The edges of her beautiful smile begin to fall The volume of her laughter is turned way down Until it sounds more like a quitter sobe And I realise... it is Now motionless she looks at me Fear etched in her once carefree face As she asks “why?” In a blink I’m grounded I can’t look at her And she asks “why do I feel so empty?” “Why I’m so scared?” “Why?” I look down, I don’t want to see her now Tears fall quietly on both our faces As I whisper “I’m sorry….” I look up and the girl I was has gone There’s just me The empty silhouette of her I wipe my tears force myself to smile and walk away from the mirror Only I know what's left in my reflection
