Peace — Summary

KGBlackAnxious

Shhhhh. It's okay. You can stop thinking now. You can let all you worries float away.

Me? Oh don't mind me. I'm just a little nothing. You'll probably forget what I even felt like in a week.

Why are you asking so much questions? Does it matter where I came from? I'm making you feel good right? You should be quite and appreciate it.

Why are you kicking me!? I'm making you feel better And yet you're still on edge. Even more the before now that I'm here. Is it your guilt making you like this? I'll get rid of that too then.

Close your eyes. Listen to the sound around you. There's alot of them right? Ones you didn't notice before.

The crackling of the fire. The wierd scent of burning flesh. The hurried footsteps of firemen. The aggresive trickling of water.

So relax. Take a breath, For I am gifting you. I'm just giving you a piece of me. A piece of peace.

The speaker here is a smooth, coaxing voice that presents itself as comfort but slowly shows something darker. "Peace" talks like a soothing presence, telling the listener to stop thinking and let worries drift away. Yet it brushes off its own origins ("Does it matter where I came from?") and gets irritated when questioned or resisted. The listener kicks and stays on edge, which suggests they sense something is wrong.

The final stanzas reveal the cause. The sounds the listener is told to notice are a crackling fire, the smell of burning flesh, firemen's footsteps and rushing water. Judging by these images, the "peace" may be numbness, shock, or even death after a disaster, offered as a gift when it is really a loss. The tone shifts from gentle to defensive to eerily cheerful, and the closing pun, "a piece of peace," feels chilling because the calm is built on harm. The mood is unsettling, quiet, and uneasy.

Regret

Rage filled tears that stain your face. Broken hearts, a shattered vase. Stop, you're saying things you don't mean. Breath in. Breath out.
