I Had Forgotten Jazz

reedjoseph7Inspired

With her sweet deep pulsating rhythms I'd been swimming in a dry sea of monotony, a forgotten sea Sunlight ceased to hearken me Breezes mere breaths of apathy The tunes of birds didn't hint to me I had forgotten jazz

How many days had it been? Days void of poetry Spent spinning relentlessly and purposelessly Purging my mind of thoughts Leaving all to naught Forgot I had forgotten jazz

A fog had settled Quiet muffling cloud Cool, damp, muggy, dead fog My mind a bog Lifeless log Still I sat trying to spark something from nothing And I had nothing to start from I had forgotten jazz

But a whisper of mercy, a remnant of grace Seeped into my radio A passing flow An ebb below Bumped my mind Nudged my elbow and said, "Hi." The whisper, the sigh The walk of a bass line And suddenly new life Had sprung into mine As if a dormant seed got just what it needed To split through the earth And rise to be greeted By sky, rain, and light To bear seeds to take flight And dance in the wind And be living again This my soul This soul of mine That needed the music To be in its prime I remember I breathe again I am free again Now I can dance Ah! Now I'm alive Again I have jazz
