Citylights

Lights twinkle on the mountainside Their dim lights keep me transfixed I reside in a home brightly lit But these beacons enchant me more Constant in the variable darkness They stand out clear and bright Even as dark tendrils ensnare the world They refuse to surrender to the night The more I stare, the brighter they seem Amber and white and red They flicker and shimmer, winking at me As if they know something I don't They seem to say "We go unnoticed But fight tirelessly against the night Even as the sun slumbers We replace the dying light.." The cold wind has numbed my skin My gaze remians upon those sparks Do others also look up and admire them Or am I alone in my love for citylights.....?

So this poem is a bit more optimistic, I suppose. From my bedroom window, at night, you've got this beautiful view of hills studded with amber lights. Sure, they belong to slums, but being optimistic at times never hurt anyone, did it?
