Rediscovering Wonder

Take my hand she said Tugging at each one of my fingers in turn Stand still. Tug Don’t give. Tug Be strong. Tug Be… Tug And I gave Holding tight to my fingers She dragged me to the surface of the pool Bursting through to the sky The sun so bright I though I might die of it But she wouldn’t stop tugging long enough to let me Fly She said Fly She said Discover the sky She said But I closed my fist around my skull Holding me in Tug Stand still. Tug Don’t give. Tug Be strong Tug Be… Tug Free And I flew As I fell My body rising Even as my mind fell away And the world began to whirl As if she in her rainbow insanity Had succeeded in subverting reality Because gravity had failed to fail And failed to succeed But all I knew was that somewhere Between flying And falling And the beauty of her fingers She kissed me And in the absence of gravity I grasped her rainbow insanity And I kissed her back Teasing the red of her lips from the rainbow And with brazen vanity Much to akin to her rainbow insanity Claimed it as my own But on the high of rediscovering wonder And how perfectly blue her eyes were Just the fact of kissing her Was all that mattered
