My window was infinite as a ring.
My head ached.
Sitting backwards, I heard a dove
speak with the day.
I take leave of trouble
with a dinner of oats,
get one window to the sea
and another to the deck
like a king.
sand castle
a fine moon but no windows
to have it
In the morning
he shouted at the fields
(the crooked fellow)
walked up and down
(the churchyard cock)
broke Barebone’s windows
and went home
(my dog-brother)
Nuthatch at the window,
probing under the sill
for frozen bugs and pupae,
one eye on the glass
where, behind the bare trees,
my bare face swims up—
that odd ice
on a sideways pond
with its year-round winter…
Last night you came
In my dreams.
You were sitting on a chair
And glanced sideways
At me, standing.
You looked young and slightly plumb.
You never were plumb, I thought in my dream,
Amused.
You talked to me; kind words -
And smiled gently, with warmth.
Listening, I wondered happily
How you had changed.
In my dream, I remember
I wished, wistfully
At the images beginning to fade
That it wasn't a dream.
After I finish
scribing him through my keyboard
the gas man plods on.
Sun in the right spot
to light up King Street Station
sloped roof, shiny green.
In the middle lane,
in the middle of the lane,
one lone prone ladder.
Blind man folds dried laundry
his long cane propped on a slant
against the doorway.
For a split second
I thought she was calling
to say she loves me.
Feeling Lester’s ghost
Pen clenched in left hand,
bent over her sudoku…
our train cools down.
To grandmother and
grandfather, his tattoo, but
I don’t ask him why.
Two umbrellas hung
from the guard tower railing,
not needed today.
Balloon flowers,
available in two shades;
grade-school commuters.
Ducks greet the sunrise
I hear them but don’t see them
as they plan their day.
I put down my book
I can’t write haiku
about that fellow taking
the shutter cord for his toy.
I could write haiku
about the suspense thrumming
as I breathe deeply.
Right now I think
only of the two donuts
awaiting me, soon…
The nurse guides a man
on the phone; he’s gotten lost
and have not we all?
I had to hear them
squabbling over violence, to
appreciate peace.
One mustn’t assume
Drops on bus window
why do some tarry, others
plunge headlong to ground?
Nearsighted, sensing
rain through library window–
a shiver in air.
Will you stop to count
how many short messages
written on your clothes?
After twenty years
I’m unfriended, for getting
David Bowie wrong.
Purple air mattress
outside Portland; too tired
to switch off the lights.
It's almost like torture
A feeling that I can't escape
And it's only getting harder
Have I really made a mistake?
Staring through the window
Drooling at the pretty toy I see
But I just don't have the money
I have to have it, it has to be for me!
And yet I see someone else
Through the glass with a gleam in their eyes
I refuse to let them have it
They can't take what is mine!
And as I pound on the glass
Oblivious to my demands
They take the toy away from me
How dare they mock me so!
I look out my window to see the stars shining bright
The constant twinkling in the sky my very own lullaby
So I close my eyes but can not sleep for the stars would haunt my dreams
Now I glance out my window pane and hope they'll come to me
Because stars are the only friends I have that will never leave
And I can depend on them to brighten up the dark
I can also tell them secrets hidden deep within my heart
Star's the only thing I know that will never stray
Star's how I want them to be here with me in day
Star's I love how they can never bring me pain
So I wish upon a star to come take me away
To take me from this wicked world and all its wicked ways
The stars could come and take me
