Invidia

Sometimes I think I'll go crazy. At times, my world feels kinda hazy. But it's fine, I'm ok. So long as I don't look at this cruel display.

What's wrong with me? Am I not the way you'd thought I'd be? Am I doing something wrong? Was I not smart enough? Not strong?

I really try to be nice, Yet sometimes you're cold as ice. You're sending me mixed intelligence, And it seems to me we've got no resonance.

What to do? What to say? Do I leave? Should I stay? Leave you be, or stick around? Turn tail and flee, or stand my ground?

Yet, I think perhaps I'll remain. I don't mind wearing this chain. I can wait, forever maybe. I'll stay by your side for as long as it takes, my lady.

Puppet

Once upon a time, In a world not unlike your own, There existed a puppeteer. He was a happy man, And he loved to put on shows For children who would wander by.

Using puppets he created With his own two hands, He would tell stories Of the olden days, When knights roamed Looking for dragons to slay.

One night, he was making a new puppet For his show the next day. It was his proudest work, And he was excited to show it off. As he sat back to admire his work, The man saw something that shocked him.

The puppet moved. It clicked and clacked, As it rose from where it sat; And to the puppeteer's dismay, It began to look at him With awe.

The puppeteer was terrified; Not because his puppet was alive, But because his show would be ruined. The puppet fell to its knees, And gave thanks to the puppeteer For giving it life.

But its thanks was quickly spurned, As the puppeteer set to work Trying to fix his mistake. Hitting and scraping his creation Despite the puppet's cries For him to stop.

It was to no avail. The puppet was here to stay. The puppeteer sobbed As he asked why he had been cursed With a puppet he could not control; And with that, he had an idea.

The next morning, to the children's delight, A new puppet danced along with the rest. It looked like a clown! The children laughed As the puppet bounced about. Such a pretty face.

If only they knew about The nails keeping the string attached, The paint covering the puppet's true face, The whimpers it made as it hung; But it could do nothing Without the puppeteer's approval, And so, it lamented.

Nolite ergo solliciti de me.

I am reliable, I am strong. I'm Mr. Go-getter! I'm never wrong!

I'm a jokester. Lifting you high, I'm here for you; So don't you cry.

Don't worry about me; I'll be alright. So long as you're doing ok, I'll be fine.

I'm so relatable; I see your side, I'll be your example, Fill you with pride!

I'm trustworthy; Or so I say. But why would I lie? I've always been that way.

I'm the light in the sky, The light in your heart. So I wonder why I'm falling apart.

I cried out for help, But nobody came. Like extending your hand Would fill you with shame.

But it's ok! Don't worry about me. I'm strong, I'll get through it. I'm a jokester, I'll make my own laughs. I'm relatable, I'll rely on myself. I'm trustworthy, I can confide in me. I'll be fine. So long as you're doing ok, I'll be fine.

Without

It is an interesting feeling, Feeling nothing. When something should send you reeling, You stare blankly into the abyss.

Perhaps you've seen it before? Perhaps not. Maybe it's all that you abhor, But it's been dulled down far enough.

The thunderous roar of the party; And yet, You've decided rather smartly You'd rather be somewhere else.

It's not happiness, no; Just noise. Finding somewhere to go, But it won't leave you alone;

Alone with the emptiness inside. So sad. Nowhere else for you to hide, But within yourself.

After all, it's the only place big enough. It's quiet. Completely devoid of stuff That makes your head spin.

And they ask why you're so cold; And please, Can't you just react somehow, they scold. Don't you care at all?

Of course you do, it's Human nature. But you've taken some hits, And no one came for you.

So you watch from afar, Eyes blank; Lacking emotion as you feel your scar, Thinking maybe they deserve it.

You want to care, So much. But it's like you're stuck in a snare, And you don't.

The Hill

Outside my house there is a hill That I would often climb And on this hill, throughout my life I would find different ways to spend my time.

When I was young, it was for the adventure For who didn't like a little fun And I was a warrior, tried and true There was never a battle I hadn't won.

As I got older, it was more to see the view And sit in quiet contemplation Or perhaps write a poem or paint As it did give me inspiration.

But now I am truly old, And I can barely climb this hill. Sometimes it feels like it's not worth it; Each time I try, I'm met with a chill.

But even though I may doubt, I know that I should not quit; Because each time I climb this hill, I know it may be the last time I do it.

As I look and see the memories I made, A smile will cross my face; For as long as I remain on this earth, I will always remember this place.

Domum

One day I was walking And I discovered an abandoned house It was an old house, to be sure, Rotten and strewn about.

Inside this house there were pictures Of those who inhabited it before People of all ages Their lives centered around this old eyesore.

From what I can tell, they were poor But strangely enough It seemed like they were happy Despite it being so tough.

A makeshift swing hung in the yard Worn from constant use Despite years of exposure Not a single string was loose

In the kitchen, a warm feeling Swept through me like the wind Many meals were shared here Despite bellies being thinned

This place was important to them Even though moss coated the walls like foam And as I looked, I finally knew This was not a house, but a home.

Two-Sided Mirror

It seems today That the world is run by difference Things that set us apart Are both beloved and scandalized

It makes one wonder Why exactly that is the case A fear of the unknown, perhaps? Or even worse, of change?

Deep down inside We are all the same, no? What does it matter how you are In comparison to your fellow person

Or are we? One could argue that Every person is unique In their own special way

So again I ask What sets us apart? Everything at once And yet, nothing at all.

Tuesday

Today is a special day for you What fun things you're going to do Festivities and cake Oh, the meals and friends you'll make... But for me, it's just a Tuesday.

This day's the day your world opened And you're praising yourself for not having broken But you don't really see What this all means to me 'Cause it's just a Tuesday.

It's supposed to be special It's supposed to be alright But I'm feeling stressful And you're glowing too bright Because today has lost its shine And I'm losing my mind So it's just a Tuesday.

Surprise! Here you go! Except I asked for this a week ago So sorry I don't show glee Because it's all lost on me As it's just a Tuesday.

The family's all here So I'm cowering in fear As you tell me not to Ruin this for you And it's just a Tuesday.

It's supposed to be special It's supposed to be alright But I'm feeling stressful And you're glowing too bright Because today has lost its shine And I'm losing my mind So it's just a Tuesday.

The day crawls to an end You say goodbye to your last friend But something is not how it should be But you just still don't see Because it's just a Tuesday.
