Why? — Summary

I hate this, I hate that, to be hating, to be the hated. I hate. I hate. And I hate. Why can't I love? It's because I fucking despise. Everthing is un fair. Nothing is fair, it was taken away, but what did I do? I was polite and kind. I wasn't disgusting and firey, Why was I so sweet about it? Why wasn't I Antagonistic?! My mask is just getting thicker. I'm sorry. But Why?

Kuro Morrow's "Why?" is a burst of frustration from a speaker who feels trapped between hatred and a wish to love. The opening line twists the word "hate" over and over, as if the speaker is stuck in a loop, both hating and feeling hated. Then comes a plain, painful question: why can't I love? The answer is blunt and crude, "because I fucking despise," which suggests the anger has crowded out other feelings.

What seems to hurt most is the unfairness. Something has been taken away, and the speaker points out they were polite and kind. They even seem to wonder whether being "so sweet" was a mistake, and whether anger or antagonism would have served them better. The poem doesn't say what was lost, so that stays a mystery.

The mood is raw, bitter, and a little exhausted. The closing lines shift quietly: the mask grows thicker, the speaker apologizes, and the poem ends again on "But Why?", with no answer in sight.
